Le dessin peut tout. Il n’est pas limité par sa matérialité comme le sont d’autres médiums. Il est un ensemble infini de choses en même temps qu’il n’est pas grand-chose. Je suis attachée à cette condition matérielle et économe du dessin. Il était évident pour moi que c’était cet endroit que j’avais envie d’exploiter. Un meuble à plan, un papier, un crayon : il y a là quelque crayon : il y a là quelque chose d’assez magique.&nbsp;» C’est ainsi que Vanessa Dziuba évoquait son rapport au dessin en septembre 2025 (1). Sur le dessin, l’artiste a ses avis et ses préférences, une approche plastique et critique. Au premier regard, ses créations relèvent pourtant moins du dessin que d’une peinture libre, comme dessinée et expansive, attachée aux compositions et à des motifs domestiques. Si sa création était un être vivant, sa peinture dessinée en serait le cœur. Mais tout un tas d’autres organes ferait corps comme autant de membres : la céramique, la photographie, l’aven- ture collective, l’imaginaire, l’écriture et, surtout, l’édition. Médium central dans sa pratique, cette dernière a été aussi pour elle un projet critique et collectif avec Collection, une revue qu’elle a créée et fait vivre jusqu’en 2025 avec Jean-Philippe Bretin, Julien Kedryna, Sammy Stein et Antoine Stevenot. La revue parlait de dessin à sa façon passionnée, radicale et prospective, au travers d’entretiens exploratoires. Comme si le dessin était un champ semé d’énigmes. «Nous étions exigeants dans nos textes. Nous avions envie de restituer au mieux le langage de chaque artiste. C’était difficile de conserver dans l’écrit quelque chose de l’oralité tout en restant lisible. Les artistes qui nous ont intéressé·es sont celleux dont le travail amène le dessin à se frotter aux codes appartenant à plusieurs domaines.&nbsp;» Sa création se tient quant à elle entre le creuset d’un imaginaire d’abord très intérieur et intime, un passage à l’acte au contraire très dépendant des interactions avec les autres, et, enfin, un rapport aux techniques et à l’imprimé comme lieu de synthèse de ses intuitions et des arts qu’elle affectionne. C’est ainsi qu’elle recherche une voie de passage entre les médiums dans une sorte d’entreprise de traduction où l’objet imprimé est bien souvent le lieu d’atterrissage. C’était déjà une édition !&nbsp;»Elle a composé ainsi un multiple intitulé Printé (ᴖᴗᴖ)/ étemps (ᴖᴗᴖ)/ auver (ᴖᴗᴖ)/ hitomne : un titre à l’écriture mutante et à la consonance féérique invoquant la totalité du temps, une image simple à la réalisation complexe, une production qui amalgame la sérigraphie, l’eau-forte, la risographie et le gaufrage. L’image se présente comme une nature morte faite de plantes dessinées au pinceau. Les contours sont tantôt flous, tantôt nets, avec, par-dessus, des encarts bleutés pareilà des écrans. Dans la partie supérieure apparaît l’image d’un papier griffonné semblable à un planning. Vanessa Dziuba a exploité ici des matériaux glanés durant son congé maternité, des temps longs d’observations de son télé- phone, au travers de sa fenêtre d’appartement ou bien au jardin public. Il y a d’abord s L’ « impression&nbsp;» a, chez Vanessa Dziuba, plusieurs épaisseurs sémantiques. Il y a d’abord son usage des techniques imprimées. Il y a ensuite l’univers domestique et son monde d’objets quotidiens capable d’imprimer une émotion. Il y a aussi sa volonté de troubler les perceptions visuelles, tel ce Gros Vase dont on ne sait s’il s’agit d’un dessin, d’une photographie ou d’une céramique.Il y a enfin son usage de la découpe et de l’incrustation dans ses dessins que l’on peut rapprocher de la définition littérale de l’impression – c’est-à-dire la pression d’un corps sur un autre, le geste d’appliquer un papier dessiné sur un autre. On aperçoit ces strates sémantiques dans sa série des Vases communicants menée entre 2017 et 2020. Elle y fait du vase un motif architectural qu’elle utilise comme une grille où chaque arête correspond à un trait de coupe. Après avoir reproduit la même découpe sur quatre surfaces peintes à grande eau, elle intervertit les découpes d’une surface peinte à une autre pour reformer quatre peintures siamoises. De ce mariage incongru entre un dessin ascétique et une peinture gestuelle naît un léger trouble d’où émerge le motif du vase. « Il n’y a pas de perte dans le processus, pas de déchet de découpage. Il n’y a que la matière des quatre feuilles peintes remplacées par une forme jumelle prise dans une autre feuille. C’est une sorte de marqueterie. La réalisation est très mécanique, millimétrée dans la découpe et très liquide dans la peinture. Je cherchais dans cette série un motif mouvant et répétitif. Cela fonctionne par les petits décalages du geste au moment où je fais la couleur. Quatre peintures, c’est le nombre minimum qui me permet d’avoir des vases aux formes complexes sans pour autant que les découpes soient issues de la même feuille. Au final, il y a un trouble lorsque l’on aperçoit les motifs de vases, des objets situés entre le meuble et l’ustensile, le commun et l’utile. J’ai beaucoup réfléchi à la frontière entre la découpe et le trait. Dans le vase, il y a cette idée de frontière, du dedans et du contenant, de la forme et de la non-forme. » Le dessin raconte sa propre histoire, chez Vanessa Dziuba. Ce sont sa nature fictionnelle et sa virtualité qui l’intéressent. Sa démarche artistique relève ainsi d’un jeu de cache-cache entre les prolégomènes oniriques qui s’agitent longtemps dans son esprit et les concrétisations graphiques de ses fictions. Vanessa Dziuba retient d’abord ses idées dans les limbes, en restant généreuse pour les raconter à qui veut bien l’écouter. Pour une recherche intitulée AG (6) autour de la notion de chef-d’œuvre qu’elle rumina quelques années avant de lui donner une forme éditoriale, elle me confiait : « Ce qui m’amusait, c’était de parler de ce projet sans qu’il y ait une forme visible. J’avais seulement imprimé des cartes de visite qui l’évoquaient et que je diffusais dans des salons. Elles produisaient des conversations. Un jour, Julie Redon (7) m’a proposé de faire une conférence sur le sujet. J’ai eu envie d’en faire une lecture performée, un geste selon moi plus radical que d’expliquer cette recherche. Le projet s’est mis à exister parce qu’il y avait cette sollicitation extérieure. Il n’arrivait à des matérialisations que parce qu’il y avait des gens qui me les demandaient. » Jusqu’à un certain stade, sa démarche pourrait se résumer à la formule selon laquelle « ce qui n’existe pas existe et ce qui existe n’existe pas&nbsp;». Les idées sont maintenues à la lisière jusqu’à ce que d’autres personnes, bien souvent des artistes, entraînent une réalisation. Depuis 2024, elle travaille ainsi sur un espace fictif qu’elle a intitulé La Promenade. Il s’agit d’un centre d’art doté d’une entrée, d’une librairie, de deux salles d’exposition et d’un jardin. On trouverait au sous-sol un vestiaire, un bureau et, à l’étage, un atelier. Consciencieusement, elle accumule des idées et des archives sur ce lieu qui n’existe pas. Elle établit une liste d’artistes à inviter. Son amie Louise Aleksiejew, autrice de bande dessinée et artiste, l’a aidée à dresser un plan du lieu selon la description qu’elle lui en faisait. Mais c’est l’invitation par Sammy Stein à être publiée dans Plomb le numéro 8 de la revue Lagon (8), en 2026, qui lui a permis de donner une première forme à ce projet. « C’est un lieu purement imaginaire où je fais intervenir des gens. Je n’ai pas réalisé de maquette et n’ai rien d’autre qu’un plan. Les dessins raconteront cet endroit. Ce sont des gouaches réalisées avec des réserves de Scotch et parfois incrustées d’autres motifs peints. L’idée est de les diffuser sous forme de livre. J’ai passé ainsi beaucoup de temps à essayer de visualiser le bâtiment, à m’y déplacer. J’ai réfléchi à ce que l’on y ferait, aux invitations, à la vie du lieu. Pour l’instant, je me suis beaucoup concentrée sur l’accueil et la librairie. J’ai commencé à travailler avec Juliet Chalaye, un·e artiste qui a fait de sa pratique de libraire une démarche artistique. En lea rencontrant, je me suis dit qu’il fallait qu’iel devienne lea libraire de ce lieu. Iel a ainsi commencé à cataloguer ses archives photographiques et à écrire une liste du stock pour la librairie. » Le défilement des gouaches au fil des pages esquissera une visite, ici la vue d’une table avec une pile de livres, plus loin, une étagère avec quelques ouvrages appuyés les uns contre les autres. Le point de vue pourrait rappeler la photographie. Mais l’absence de perspective réaliste, le traitement coloré des surfaces et le relatif dénuement des lieux laissent l’impression d’un espace fraîchement sorti d’un rêve. Il n’est pas anodin que Vanessa Dziuba fasse le récit d’un lieu d’exposition qui n’existe pas et que la série paraisse dans une revue. L’édition serait- elle l’exposition ? On aurait tort de paraphraser Seth Siegelaub lorsqu’il disait que, « dans certains cas, l’exposition pourrait n’être que le “catalogue” lui-même » (9), car, pour notre artiste, l’édition est simplement un espace préférable et autonome. « L’exposition n’est pas un médium roi. Le dessin y existe pendant un temps, y est vu par quelques personnes puis disparaît. Des formes comme l’édition, le livre, l’objet édité durent autrement, échappent au regard, entrent chez les gens. Il y a là un rapport physique au dessin qui est complètement différent de l’exposition. » Les œuvres éditées de Vanessa Dziuba sont des hors-lieux, des multiples, des objets ubiques perméables avec les espaces domestiques et les lieux publics. L’art édité se distingue en cela de l’art exposé, lequel est plus léger, plus mobile et aérien, presque hors gravité. Loin d’être de simples véhicules, ces objets donnent corps à l’imaginaire cérébral et organique de Vanessa Dziuba. Vanessa Dziuba est née en 1982 à Rueil-Malmaison. Elle vit et travaille à Pariset à Ivry-sur-Seine. Car c’est après la naissance de son fils, à l’hiver de 2021, que Vanessa Dziuba a conçu une première série de dessins du projet, par bribes, dans les courts moments désormais vacants. Le dessin tient une place prépondérante dans le travail de l’artiste : «&nbsp;l’échelle de chaque image et les rapports au format sont aussi importants que la manière même de dessiner.&nbsp;» Elle a ainsi eu recours à quatre techniques d’impression différentes. Des appâts de couleur contrastent avec des estompes ; le bleu phtalocyanine des gravures s’impose à l’apparente bichromie de la sérigraphie. Un jeu de trame donne du relief à l’ensemble. La composition procède d’une juxtaposition de deux images, comme deux fenêtres ouvertes sur un dialogue en visioconférence. La végétation que l’artiste regarde par la fenêtre entre en contact avec le flux des images provenant de son téléphone portable. Les éléments dans la marge blanche dévoilent de manière plus explicite ce temps de la parentalité : un calendrier manuscrit témoigne d’une nouvelle organisation à adopter pour s’occuper d’un enfant, dont on perçoit la petite oreille imprimée en relief dans la peau du papier. « Je passe beaucoup de temps à observer lorsque je le porte et le berce continuellement. Je contemple les saisons ou ce qu’il en restera, je réalise des peintures rassemblant le dedans et le dehors, le cueilli et ce qui est encore en terre, ce qui est voué à périr et les germes de ce qui Baudat, Julie Bécaux, Thomas Bouville, Morgan Fortems, Anaïs Radière La vision aveugle. Le titre de cette série porte en lui tout le paradoxe du travail de Vanessa Dziuba. Comment est-il possible qu’il y ait une vision si elle est aveugle ? Cette oxymore désigne un terme scientifique : vision aveugle ou blindsight est la vision subliminale des personne dont le cortex visuel primaire est atteint, qui sont capables parfois de “voir sans voir”. Il paraîtrait en effet que bien que les patients n’ient aucune vision consciente des choses qui les entourent, lorsqu’on leur présente un objet ou un point de lumière dans leur champ aveugle, ils parviennent tout de même à indiquer leur position avec précision. La rétine transmet toujours quelques informations à la main, en contournant les lésions de la rétine. Force est de constater que le noir total n’existe pas, et que même étant privé de ses yeux, l’être humain parvient tout de même à percevoir et à ressentir son environnement, comme si une lumière intrinsèque lui permettait de lutter contre une obscurité totale. En réalisant ces dessins au crayon, Vanessa Dziuba se place en quelque sorte dans la peau d’une personne aveugle, puisqu’elle ne voit pas les objets qu’elle dessine. Impossible pour elle de représenter les choses qu’elle a devant les yeux, le modèle n’est pas devant elle. Les objets que l’artiste dessine sont choisis par une tierce personne, de façon à ce qu’elle ne puisse pas du tout les reconnaître. Elle ne restitue pas ce qu’elle voit mais bien ce qu’elle perçoit, ce qu’elle touche, ce qu’elle ressent. Elle doit laisser aller son imagination, et laisser parler ses autres sens. Le résultat est surprenant : aucun objet n’est vraiment reconnaissable. Des formes fantasmagoriques, irréelles apparaissent sur le papier.&nbsp; L’artiste se compare volontiers à un explorateur ou un scientifique, qui isole et explore les éléments, pour mieux en comprendrant la matière. Depuis son diplôme, elle a choisi la lenteur comme manière de travailler. Elle dit se calquer “sur une temporalité nonchalante, celle qui donne à la nature la possibilité de bouger, de pousser sans qu’on la voit faire.” Au fond, ce travail pose la question de la véracité de ce qu’ nous voyons. Y-a-t-il une seule et vraie version de ce que nous voyons. Y-a-t-il une seule et vraie version des choses que l’on voit ? &nbsp;En fonction de notre âge, de notre taille, de la qualité de notre vue, le monde extérieur n’est pas le même d’une personne à l’autre. Nous ne voyons pas les mêmes couleurs avec la même intensité, notre attention n’est pas attiré par les mêmes choses, car nous n’avons pas la même perception de notre environnement. La perception est subjective, et si l’on demande à deux personnes de dessiner exactement le même objet, nous serions surpris de contater que ce même objet n’a pas été perçu de la même façon d’un individu à l’autre. Nos yeux et cerveau formetn leurs propres images variables. Nos yeux peuvent produire des images défaillantes ou incomplètes, qui ne seront pas causées par les objets eux-mêmes mais par la mécanique des yeux.&nbsp; L’artiste affirme que cette série a pour idée de “donner une matérialité à ce que l’on voit autrement qu’avec nos yeux, de donner une image à ce que nous percevons par la sensation, par la vision intérieure des choses.” Cette série révèle les disproportions, nos a priori, lorsque l’on touche quelque chose sans le voir.&nbsp; Notre cerveau fonctionne par association d’idées et par reconnaissance, il conceptualise. S’il ne peut pas mettre un mot sur ce que la main est en train de toucher, alors la représentation provenant de l’affect, de la sensibilité première, comparable à celle de l’enfant qui découvre son environnement.&nbsp; Cette série de Vanessa Dziuba nous présente donc la réalité d’une façon différente. C’est une réalité basée sur les sens et la perception. La vision n’est pas nécessaire pour représenter “correctement” les choses, puisqu’il n’existe pas de vérité constante des choses. Cette vision aveugle est en réalité une vision débarrassée du poids des mots et des concepts. Seules les formes et les sensations comptent. Vanessa Dziuba nous propose une vision plus naïve et plus personnelle, plus lumineuse et peut-être plus éclairée sur le monde qui nous entoure. La dualité de ce dessin repose sur le principe de ségrégation entre figure et fond, qui permet à l’oeil de détecter les contours des objets afin que nous puissions nous en saisir. Un tel système binaire s’applique rarement au travail de Vanessa Dziuba. En effet, ses oeuvres sur papier, souvent situées dans l’interstice entre abstraction et figuration, évincent toute opposition lisible entre objet représenté et arrière-plan. Multipliée jusqu’à devenir motif ou camouflée en son sein, la figure se fait fond ; incarné par le périmètre de son format, le fond lui-même devient figure. Tout contrat entre contenant et contenu se voit résilié. Ainsi, les vases dessinés par Dziuba ne peuvent être que communicants, possédant déjà en eux l’idée d’un ensemble qui les dépasse. En l’absence de cette opposition fondamentale entre figure et fond se pose la question du plan. Ou plutôt, des plans. Émancipé de la perspective géométrique, le travail graphique de Dziuba ne simule pas la profondeur dans l’espace virtuel de la représentation, mais l’accomplit de facto dans l’espace tangible de la main, par addition et soustraction de surfaces : superpositions de motifs, marqueterie de papier, perforation de la matière. La grille s’impose comme un motif récurrent, concrétisant l’existence d’un devant et d’un derrière tout en affirmant la porosité de leurs frontières. Feuilles de papier, plaques de céramique, couches de crayon, de peinture et d’émail composent les strates de cette sédimentation artificielle, comme autant de filtres venus révéler progressivement l’image. A l’endroit du joint entre ces différentes surfaces naît une vibration. Des vases voient onduler leurs contours, accentuant l’idée de leur débordement, comme s’ils avaient été dessinés par le jet d’un galet dans une piscine au carrelage ornementé (2). Dix gros dessins tremblent de l’écrasement du grain de leur papier par l’agrandissement et l’impression numérique (3). Dédoublée par son ombre projetée sur le mur, une grille de papier ajouré fait frémir ses couleurs tel un écran plasma défectueux (4). Rien n’arrive sinon le papier peint, mais celui-là fait déjà beaucoup : le voilà qui moire, qui chatoie, qui vrombit. Bleus, verts et bruns d’automne, cercles mous et lignes raides, crayons frottés et émaux granuleux se confondent, se traversent et se heurtent jusqu’à provoquer une véritable « énergie vibratoire » (5). Comme un bruit blanc viendrait troubler le silence, sans vraiment l’annuler pour autant. La composition florale japonaise, ou ikebana, que pratique et expose parfois Dziuba au sein de ses expositions, est un indice sur la nature de son geste artistique. L’ikebana permet en effet de comprendre son travail sous l’angle de l’arrangement, mettant en lumière son empirisme et sa recherche de l’harmonie. Comment les choses tiennent-elles entre elles ? L’arrangement dépend aussi bien de contacts localisés, à l’échelle de deux éléments voisins, que d’une vue d’ensemble, d’un équilibre global. Mais ne comprenons pas cet équilibre comme un état d’inertie : étymologiquement, l’ikebana, c’est avant tout l’art de « faire vivre les fleurs ». Un principe créateur que l’on retrouve dans la production de Dziuba, qui outrepasse la notion de représentation pour faire vivre, avec une joie certaine, couleur, matière et lumière. Faire vivre, et pourrait-on ajouter, vivre avec. Car le travail de l’artiste n’est pas étranger à la pensée du design selon le mouvement Arts and Crafts, qui laisse une large place à la beauté et au plaisir, et aux enseignements artisanaux du Bauhaus. D’où le caractère décoratif, utilitaire ou manipulable de certaines pièces telles que des assiettes, des couverts, des vases ou encore le livre Ten fat drawings, qui n’est pas sans rappeler un catalogue de papiers peints et qu’on se risquera à surnommer Vanessa Peintures, pour l’amour de la référence à Klein. A croire que les contours du vase sont plus larges encore qu’ils ne le laissaient penser. Évidemment cela rate, tout le temps. Mais c’est aussi ce décalage qui m’intéresse. &nbsp; La vision aveugle est une série de dessin où je tente de retranscrire un objet. J’ai demandé à des personnes de mon entourage de me prêter des objets que je n’ai jamais vu. Comme lors d’une séance de dessin d’observation, je m’évertue à dessiner ce que je vois. Cependant les objets sont cachés et je ne connais rien d’eux hormis ce que je ressens en les touchant. Pour la série de dessins Vases communicants, je peins un motif sur le papier. J’essaye de faire que les dessins soient les plus identiques possibles. Puis je découpe une forme à chaque fois au même endroit dans mes feuilles. En permutant les morceaux, l’image apparait permutée et troublée rendant l’architecture fantomatique.
